I sat on our couch holding our daughter in my arms. This is the time of night where I pray for her, but I felt emotionally and physically exhausted. I contemplated what might happen if I skipped prayers that evening. Surely, such a small change would not amount to anything significant.
I tried to direct my wondering to God. What does the Bible say about seemingly small things?
"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." - Matthew 17:20, NIV
Nothing will be impossible for you. Can you even absorb the magnitude of that statement? That incredible result comes from such a tiny portion of faith.
What if every day, these small things are really the gigantic things? After all, such a small amount of faith can accomplish a great, seemingly improbable feat. What if our faithfulness in the small things is making an eternal but perhaps unseen impact on our world? What if these small opportunities to follow are God's invitations to craft a legacy?
I'm choosing to believe that the little things can be catalysts. That maybe it takes just a small amount of faith to move the greatest obstacles, to do the meaningful things God has called us to do today.
So I prayed that night. I placed my faith in the power of the little things. God does too. He is always there, listening for you and rejoicing over you. Even if you have just a little bit of faith, just a little bit to pursue this small thing in front of you. With God, all things are possible. What small things is God asking you to be faithful in today? I'd love to pray for you.
